Masks

Create masks

To create a mask, we have a button that displays several options:

White mask

This button creates a white mask on the selected layer.

A white mask means that the entire effect of the layer is visible in that area.

Black mask

This button creates a black mask on the selected layer.

A black mask means that the layer is completely hidden in that area.

If you add a white mask to a layer, by default the layer will be applied to the entire surface of the model.

From there you can paint in black or gray to hide or reveal only certain parts.

Mask UV

This button creates a black mask by default and assigns white only to the UV island you select.

Each UV island is treated as an “independent zone” where you can apply materials or effects.

Typical usage example

If your model is a car with a single material but multiple UV islands (body, windows, wheels), you can add a UV Mask on a red paint layer and set it to only affect the body UV island, without touching the wheels or windows.

Mask mesh island

This button creates a mask that automatically identifies each geometry island in the model.

Allows applying different materials to each geometry piece within a single material, without needing to separate them or paint masks manually.

Mask vertex color

This button creates a black mask by default and assigns white only to the vertex color you select.

Mask object ID

This button creates a black mask by default and assigns white only to the object ID you select.

Workflow

When a mask is created on the layer, a button is activated to work with masks.

Masks appear when we have the layer selected and we are in mask work mode.

Masks are organized just below the selected layer and work similarly to layers. They also have the same priority order as layers.

Mask actions

Mask visibility

We can toggle the visibility of the mask with the eye-shaped button.

Mask name

We can change the name of the mask by double-clicking on it.

Blend mode

This is a dropdown option that shows all the blend modes for the selected mask.

Delete mask

We can delete the mask by clicking on the X.
